More than Two: Therapy & Mediation

Who do You call "family?"

Family's come in all shapes and sizes, and often, function as systems: members have a shared history, habits and ways of doing things and being together, strengths and challenges. Families of all varieties struggle with connection vs autonomy.

I like to think of families as being a web of connection. Each relationship between any two members of the family is going to move through the rest of the family system as well. Conflict and compromise both radiate out through the web in similar ways. I support families, couples and polycules in gaining insight, communicating through disagreements and mending their relationships, whatever that looks like for You.

I offer two evidence-based modalities when working with couples and families:

  1. Transformative Mediation

  2. Functional Family Therapy (FFT)

Some families will benefit from a mixed approach of these modalities as well as somatic practices, Schema Therapy and an Internal Family Systems approach. We can collaborate to discern which approaches are right for Your family.

Fee for Service: My standard rate is $120 per couple/ family session. I have 4 sliding-scale slots of my caseload through Open Path: $60 - $80 per session. While I do not accept insurance, I can accept HSA and FSA as well as all major credit cards. I do offer reimbursement documentation (called "super bills") that You can submit to Your insurance, who will consider me an out of network provider.

Transformative Mediation

Transformative mediation is an approach which offers a relational focus container for families in conflict to meet with a neutral facilitator and talk about their issues. I'm trained in and offer non-legal mediation services for:

  • Custody and visitation issues.

  • General disagreements (inheritance, family conflict, navigating elder/child care, etc)

  • Scheduled in 2 hour blocks (ex: 9 - 11 am)

  • In Person or online (via zoom)

  • $150 per session

I have experience using FFT with  youth (12+) and their families. Often times, families which have experienced divorce, adoption, foster care and traumatic experience have young people who struggle with their role in the family/ community and may be coping through yelling, disregarding rules, withdrawing, trying illegal substances or self-harm.  FFT is an evidence-based protocol with three distinct stages: Engagement and Motivation (EM), Behavior Change (BC) and Generalization (G). â€‹

$120 per session

  • Establish goals (such as communication, conflict resolution, agreements, etc) and work towards them through the 3 stages.

  • 60 min sessions.

  • Comprehensive assessments (evaluate progress and outcomes).

  • Anyone in the family is welcome to join.
  • $120 per session
